Helium is used in deep diving because it is light, stable, and non-reactive. It protects the body where oxygen becomes dangerous under pressure. It allows us to go deeper without losing clarity. There is a danger though. If it displaces oxygen completely, life cannot be sustained.
To dive deep into the essence of who we are is a desire to know oneself. To explore the depth of these dark places is not for the faint of heart. I’ve been part of groups and teaching circles that devote their entire path to uncovering trauma, negative patterns, and facing the deep caverns of egoism that is the human condition. We would use hypnosis to bring up events in a person’s psyche, forcing them to relive horrendous events. Then, while their emotions were at their most painful, push them to yank their consciousness away from the moment, challenging them to see how they were responsible for their greatest pain. It was maddening and deeply confronting.
After two years of this, I asked the instructor if there would ever be an end. Could we uncover enough of our issues that one day we would be free of them. “No,” he said. “We don’t get to not have our trauma. We only get better at recognizing it.” For me, this was the moment I realized that this was not the path for me. All these people were doing was chasing demons. This was not healing, it was psychological masochism. This, was Helium beginning to displace Oxygen. Sure, we could bring awareness to our trauma so that we were emotionally stable in the face of it, but I couldn’t accept that there was no way to have it removed from our bodies. Surely there was a way to live without it festering inside of us, threatening to one day turn into disease.
In a few short months after taking the decision to move on from this path, I found Sanskrit and began my journey toward alchemy and energy transformation. I found the key to transmuting trauma rather than redefining it.
