Since Helium is a stable molecule, it could be related to as also emotionally safe since we are looking at it through the lends of Cancer. As Isha grows to experience more of the world around her, the sights and sounds can be overwhelming. Oftentimes I find myself in need of maintaining my inner stability when she is upset. Don’t react. Figure out what she needs and handle the situation.
We were at a doctor appointment today and when the doctor arrived to talk to me, he looked over at Isha and said, “Is she always this well behaved?” “Yeah I guess”, I said. “Unless she needs something.” This wasn’t an uncommon question. I get asked a lot about how it is possible for me to leave the house while she is so young, or asked if she is always this calm. Since she is my first baby, I don’t really know what it is like for other babies. What I know is that no matter what is happening, I always keep my inner stillness. Isha cries when she needs something, and I’ve worked hard in these first few months to stay neutral and figure out what she needs.
This has allowed me to stay conscious and attentive, even in her wildest screaming. It grants me the grace to observe her rather than react to her. If I keep my emotions steady, she has a clear stage to perform her disapproval of the moment while I watch. I learn. I respond. This is the power of Helium; to stay neutral in high pressure situations. Through this practice she can learn to trust me; that I will tend to her when she is in need. If her needs are met, then we can both sit there is calm neutrality.
